Actor Josh Duhamel talks about his new mini series on Tupac and Notorious B.I.G murders

Star Josh Duhamel says the icons were 'taken way too young.'

A new mini-series hits the tv airwaves tonight. "Unsolved": The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. begins a 10 part series tonight at 10:00 pm on the USA Network. Actor Josh Duhamel is one of the stars of the series and spoke to Kim Holcomb about the show. Below is a transcript of the interview.

Holcomb: Josh, can you tell us what the series is all about?

Duhamel: "It's really about, you know, obviously the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, but really it's about who these two were as human beings and how much their deaths affected their families. And how obsessive the two detectives became in trying to figure out the truth. I play Detective Greg Kading, who was brought on by the LAPD in 2006 after Voletta Wallace, Biggie's mother, sued the LAPD for 400 million. And I was in charge of sort of running this task force, that involved the ATF, the FBI, Sheriff's Department, all different kinds of law enforcement to really find the truth. And they did, they did find the truth. And unfortunately, they were never able to bring it to trial."

Holcomb: “Both these murders happened over 20 years ago. Do you have any theories on why these two artists and this mystery are as popular as ever?

Duhamel: "Well I think the reason why this is so popular after so long is these guys were icons. These guys were at the top of their game and were taken way too young. And I think that's really what kind of keeps people interested and invested in this. They were so good, and I think the longer they're gone, the more we really appreciate how talented they both were. And how much of an influence they had on not only the hip-hop culture but that generation in general. And it's just really too bad that they were taken so young because they had so much more to do."

Holcomb: “They did. Well, Josh thank you so much for your time and we look forward to watching the series starting tonight.”

Duhamel: "Thank you, Kim"
