In 2000, 'Simpsons' said Trump would be president

16 years ago, on a now-prescient episode of The Simpsons, the legendary animated series predicted President Trump would take office.

In January, we'll officially get to call him President Donald Trump.

But 16 years ago, on a now-prescient episode of The Simpsons, the legendary animated series predicted President Trump would take office.

Back in the show's 11th season in 2000, Bart to the Future gave Bart Simpson an opportunity to see 30 years ahead at what happened to him and his family. He found out that his sister Lisa had become president, and that's when we learn who she succeeded:

"As you know, we're inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump … "

When creator Matt Groening was asked about the joke last month, he said this to The Guardian:

"We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 - but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that's still true. It's beyond satire."
