Babymetal is a lot like it sounds -- a trio of three cute Japanese girls in shiny black skirts singing to heavy metal music, with a little dubstep and pop thrown in.
They may sound like a desecration of the heavy metal genre, but they're legit -- they've amassed the love of tons of musicians (pop and metal alike) and have started to worm their way into being a real force in the heavily male-dominated metal scene.
Combining the gimmickry of J-pop -- the goth Lolita outfits, the high-pitched singing voices and the overly cute dances -- with headbanging rock music, Babymetal has become so prolific since their debut in 2011 that they made their U.S. TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night, subsequently confusing and intriguing everyone who was watching.
The trio -- comprised of Su-Metal, 18, Yuimetal, 16 and Moametal, 16 -- performed their hit Gimme Chocolate! from their debut album Babymetal from 2014.
We're still not sure what we just watched, but we have an odd craving for chocolate now.
If you want more Babymetal, their world tour kicked off Saturday, and the band's second album Metal Resistance gets released April 1.
