Ryan Takeo joined King 5 as an MMJ in July 2015. That means he shoots, writes, and edits his own stories.

Ryan grew up in Covina, California.

His father was born in Japan and was adopted by a Japanese-American family. His mother is Mexican-American.

Ryan’s love of storytelling grew out of listening to legendary Los Angeles Dodgers’ broadcaster Vin Scully.

He’s a proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. That’s why he wears a lot of black and gold.

His television career started at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There he won an award for Associated Press Reporter of the Year.

Ryan moved back to the West Coast to work for KPIX in San Francisco. There he covered national and international stories like the Asiana plane crash, the 6.0 Napa earthquake, and a bizarre kidnapping in Vallejo.

He’s blessed to be in the Pacific Northwest. He’s always dreamed of being a part of the KING 5 newsroom.

He lives in Seattle with his wife, Abby, and their feisty feline, Luna.
