Logs pierce truck windshield, seriously injures driver on I-5 in Tacoma

By Thursday night the driver had improved to satisfactory condition.

The driver of one logging truck was transported to the hospital after logs from another truck went through their windshield on I-5 at SR 16 Thursday.

Tacoma General Hospital says the driver has been upgraded from serious to satisfactory condition.

The accident blocked two lanes of northbound of I-5 and snarled traffic, but the freeway reopened after five hours.

Washington State Patrol says the injured driver did not slow down properly and drove into the back of the other log truck.
