Seattle U. removes archbishop's name from athletic's center, citing pedophile priest cover-up

The Jesuit university's board of trustees approved removing Thomas Connolly's name from its athletics complex because of his involvement in a cover-up for a pedophile priest.

Seattle University's athletics center will remove the name of a former archbishop because of his involvement in a cover-up for a pedophile priest.

The Connelly Center is named after Thomas Connolly who died in 1991.

The Seattle Times says Connelly moved Father Michael Cody to parishes around Western Washington despite knowing he sexually abused children for decades.

The Jesuit university’s board of trustees on Friday approved removing Connolly’s name from its athletics complex and renaming it “Redhawk Center,” effective immediately.
