Rich Marriott is the Meteorologist for KING 5’s Morning News.
He has been forecasting the weather for western Washington for over 40 years.
Rich received a BS in Physics and MS in Meteorology from UCLA.
He spent 3 more years in the graduate program at the University of Washington.
Rich’s research led to the co-founding (with Mike Moore) of the Northwest Avalanche Center. In his 15 years there, Rich spent 10 summers working as a glaciologist on the Blue Glacier in Olympus for UW.
He has co-authored numerous research papers in scientific journals, including Nature, Journal of Glaciology, Journal of Geoelecticity and Geomagnetism, and others.
He continues to be involved in the snow and avalanche community as General Secretary of the Steering Committee for the International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW).
Outside of KING 5, Rich is an avid skier, snowboarder, kayaker, and backpacker. He has summited Mt. Rainier twice and backpacked long sections of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington and California.
He has three children.
