Seventy-years-ago young Jim Blaney started flying in an open-cockpit Stearman bi-plane. During World War II, he was a pilot of a B-17, and spent his entire life flying his planes. He had a big surprise when a friend brought a Stearman to the Lynden airport where not-so-young 90-year-old Jim climbed into the cockpit and took to the air like seventy years had not happened. He still pilots his own plane (now owned by a friend) whenever the weather cooperates. His friends enviously comment on his landings "like floating" and tease each other because their landings are not as smooth as "Jimmy's."

Many of you might remember my daughter Hannah Mae Campbell, some of you voted for her to win a Parents magazine photo contest a couple of months ago. She was diagnosed with a very rare heart condition and is currently the only survivor. She received a heart transplant in September and is doing well. In honor of her 1st Birthday we don't see any other way to celebrate than hold a blood drive and help others. On May 17th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 215 Mukilteo Blvd Everett 98203, we are holding a 1st Birthday Bash/ Blood Drive in her honor. The day will go from 10am- 7pm. Because we lived at Seattle Children's for 169 days our goal is to have 169 blood donors. Please help us reach our goal! This event is for everyone!! There will be bouncy houses, face painting and of course birthday cake. Hannah received 59 blood transfusions during her 6 months in the hospital. She would not be alive if it wasn't for the gift of blood. Did you know 1 pint of blood can save 3 lives.

I have attached the link below if you would like to sign up to donate. Thank you!

These pictures were taken at the Tulip Festival in Woodland, WA. Sometimes I think we are forgotten down here in the south part of the State. The Vancouver, WA area has some of the most beautiful scenery and places to visit. I used to live in Seattle and visited the Skagit Valley Tulips every year and was sad not to see tulips in bloom....but we have them down here too!!! Tomorrow the Lilac Gardens!

This is a great community/human interest story.
EmoryFest: Saturday 4/27 & Sunday 4/28
Everyone's friend, Emory Yip, recently suffered a stroke at the age of 48. He has been in the hospital and rehab since the stroke. Nothing newsworthy about that.

Emory is like a modern day super hero. He works a 8:00 - 5:00 thankless job as a cost accountant at a local airplane manufacturer. He then drives from Mountlake Terrace to Smokey Point to spend time with his kids and to teach their martial arts class. After that, he goes to his 2nd job, which he doesn't need, but really loves, at the Old Village Pub in Lynnwood and at the Top Shelf Grill in Kirkland.

Emory is everybody's friend, not because he wants anything from you, but because he is one of the rare individuals who is just nice for the sake of being nice.

Today and tomorrow (Sunday), several hundreds (if not thousands) of people have put together EmoryFest to help raise funds to cover the expense of his hospital and rehab bills. Today the had a biker Poker Run that included a ride-by in front of Emory's hospital room. The staff at the rehab facility talked about the "rolling thunder" all day long and bragged about seeing it to the 2nd shift. Several bands played for free at the Old Village Pub, donating all proceeds to help Emory.

On Sunday, there will a silent auction, a live auction, eight different bands playing for the benefit and OVP donating much of the proceeds to help Emory. Even high school friends from 30 years ago are setting up trust accounts and soliciting donations for him. Businesses throughout Lynnwood, Edmonds, & Mountlake Terrace have donated to the cause.

This is all because to know Emory, is to love Emory. This is all put together by people who know him. His family has not asked for any help from anyone, although his family has been active in the Chinese community (and is related to several well know public service figures and other "news worthy" people of interest). BTW, most of Emory's friends and supporters are the white community of Snohomish county.

I am Dan Jacky, 206-979-2552, dan_jacky@yahoo.com. The Old Village Pub is at the corner of 196th & 76th SW in Lynnwood. Emory is at Kindred Health Care at Northgate, room 222. I can provide you family contact info after I ask their permission.

BTW, only losers don't own a "I know Emory" T shirt, which sold out in about 5 minutes and are on a waiting list. I think these will out-sell "Vote for Pedro"
