My story
Report this
by BRD16

I started working at Puget Sound Orthopaedics the beginning on October and loved my job more than anything! I did a great job and worked really hard. I would help everyone and to what i thought i was going above and beyond my job description.I needed this job it was an answer to my prayers because I was about to be on the streets due to the fact i was unable to find a job. I was constantly praised for my good behavior and got a coin for doing a "great job", or so i thought. On 11-16-09 i had a severe panic attack that almost put me in the hospital. my blood pressure was dangerously high and it was one of the scariest moments of my life! I was not able to work that day. I went there and told my manager "i think i need to go the the ER I DONT FEEL OK!" she said ok bring a note.... so i did... and the next day she called me into her office and said i am being terminated for not "keeping up with the pace" and i wasn't catching on... can we say law suit? she fired me because of my severe illness and claimed it was because i wasn't catching on. when i know for a fact i was an excellent employee. Discrimination is a serious thing and should not be tolerated. because of her i am losing my home and unable to let alone feed my self because she fired me on such short notice and my check was already spent..... I want my story to be heard for anyone who has lost and job due to discrimination of their illness and want to know what they did. thank you for reading my story.

It depends on your attendance record before the incident. I was fired for having severe morning sickness. Unfortunately, missed work is missed work. Especially if it's short notice and you have a history of it.

Well, it also depends on your attendance record before the incident. If you had been gone a few times before, I can definitely understand the issue. I was fired from a job because I had morning sickness and was unable to work, missed work is missed.

Sorry that I got so much in a dander over this. When someone is trying to express their needs and are corrected on the structure, it is so cold and pompous. How I spelled all of that ok so as to not be graded.

p1w123:get a life! brd16: I feel for you! An employer in Washington state can fire you for any reason. Trust me, I know from experience! Look into unemployment benefits! Take your skills elsewhere! Good luck with everything!

As an aside, I'd suggest brushing up on your writing skills. The title should be "...Needs to be heard!", not "...too heard" and when referring to yourself, capitalize "I" even in the middle a sentence. Future employers will think better of you.

Depending on your time there you may qualify for un-employment. WRT your panic attack they are more common than you may think. Mine went away by taking an anti-depressant and I can safely say I have gotten my life back. I wish you the best in yours

We live in a state where a company can fire you for any reason at any time. I'm sorry there is really nothing you can do.
