I've been photographing bird on Bitter Lake since 2007, and every now and again something new comes along. Today, as I arrived at the lake, a flock of widgeons flew and settled onto the lake. When I got to the place I wanted to take a picture, I noticed one was different than the others. When I edited the photos, I saw I had a good clear shot of the duck that was different, and went to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology online and could see clearly what I had found - a Eurasian Widgeon. That is not a frequent visitor here, according to that site, so I am happy to have made a discovery today, in spite of the rain.
