Took a trip (15 Jan.) up the snow-covered trail to lake Serene below the north face of Mount Index. It was about 10 degrees cooler in the lake basin (20°F) than on the trail going up.
Took this photo of a gigantic icicle hanging off the north face
of the mountain. Guestimate it was about 75 feet long.
Put on extra clothes, had a very quick lunch and headed back down.
