November Storm: an urban chicken was blown by the storm into our yard this afternoon. She had an injured foot, was soaking wet, and pretty shaken up. We took her in and tended to her injuries, set her up in our guest room with food, water and a makeshift roost, then canvased our Ballard neighborhood looking for her home. In the process, we met several neighbors we'd never met who have urban chickens, but no one claimed the little lost hen. To our surprise, they all grabbed their rain coats and flash lights and joined our neighborhood search for the hen's home. In the process, we decided to make a neighborhood urban chicken group and exchanged contact info. We are still searching for Miss Purdy's home (we named her that because she's so pretty!) and she is resting comfortably in our guest bedroom, warm, dry and safe. Who knew a lost little hen could bring a neighborhood together on a dark, stormy night? One of the many reasons I HEART Seattle!
