We were sailing on Puget Sound Sunday afternoon and saw a pod of Orca whales working their way south. About 5:30PM one whale blew its spout about 200 yards off our port bow. Minutes later it passed in front of us. Then another passed behind us not 30 yards away. I ran below and got my camera with a long telephoto lens and started shoot photos. By sunset, the pod appeared to have made it south almost to Shilshole near Ballard. We put into Port of Edmonds and wrapped for the day. What a great and rare experience to see the whales this far south!!! They may have been chasing the last of the Coho.
