Dragonflies are a delightful challenge to photograph, especially in flight. You can't get very close, so a zoom lens is needed, but you can't aim and focus to take a shot before they have flitted off at lightspeed somewhere else. This one dallied a little, hovering, long enough to get a good shot. Red ones are scarce. A better strategy, requiring lots of patience, is to wiat for one to light onto a blackberry vine or something and snap a quick shot. If it gets hot, they can't fly long before having to rest a while. That's when you have the best opportunity to snap a shot.
