On April 16, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community held a special ceremony to dedicate a Story Pole to Skagit Valley College at SVC’s Mount Vernon Campus.

On behalf of the college, the SVC Foundation commissioned master carver and Swinomish Tribal member Kevin Paul to carve the Story Pole. The carving took several months for Paul to create from his home in La Conner.

“Skagit Valley College is honored to welcome the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community to our campus,” said SVC President Dr. Thomas A. Keegan during the ceremony. “This magnificent Story Pole, so carefully crafted by Kevin Paul, will serve as a symbol of the ongoing relationship that SVC enjoys with local tribal communities. In addition, it will be a welcoming beacon to all who visit Skagit Valley College now and into the future.”
