Sept. 17, 2011 was JP Patches final public performance at the Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle, WA.
I surprised my husband Michael this afternoon with his lifelong dream of meeting his boyhood idol JP Patches. Cancer — and four years of treatment for it — have taken a toll on JP's strength, stamina and mobility according to a recent, local article. He is 83-years-old. Our neighbor and fellow Patches Pal Kim Gallagher came with us (she was in on the surprise) to "see" JP Patches. Better than "seeing" him perform, we pulled into the parking lot right after JP and met him personally. He was so gracious and treated us like a few of the "kids" he long time inspired. He autographed two JP Patches bobbleheads, and an old autographed photo of him along side Col. Sanders. He paused for pictures with each of us. To say it was pretty special moment is an understatement.
