For their first Team Event, Be the Gift gathered 30 volunteers together to help a Camano Island couple in need.

After years of battling colon cancer, Claudia was going in for yet another surgery and would have to stay at her mother’s house to recover. With her husband Ron working 60 hour weeks and Claudia’s ongoing health issues, their house had fallen into disarray and was sorely in need of some loving attention.

On Jan 22 & 23rd Be the Gift and a team of dedicated volunteers went in, cleared the clutter, cleaned the house and gave Ron & Claudia back a peaceful and healing home. The event was a huge success! (Check out the fun video recap and see for yourself at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIa9OeX0WFg.)

It might appear the volunteers were the ones giving and Ron and Claudia were on the receiving end, but actually that was not the case. By receiving the offer of assistance and allowing Be the Gift into their home, Ron & Claudia gave each and every volunteer a precious gift - the opportunity to make a difference. It was hard work, but immensely satisfying - and FUN! People from Bellingham to Portland gathered Saturday morning as individuals with a common cause. By Sunday afternoon they parted ways as extended family, forever connected by this powerful shared experience.

This kind of giving and receiving, where the value of time and connection far outweighs a gift of money or goods, is what Be the Gift is all about.

Based in Vancouver, WA, Be the Gift is a company founded by four women who came together to reinvent giving and receiving - one person at a time. Their fresh approach to this simple act involves giving of yourself in a new way.

One aspect of their business is Be the Gift Teams. They choose a cause, small or large, and present one or multiple Be the Gift Cards designed to make a difference in someone's life.

For their first Be the Gift Team event in Camano Island, Be the Gift presented Ron & Claudia with "Project Pal" and "Polish Your Pad" Gift Cards. These are just two of the 12 unique gift cards currently available from Be the Gift.

Part of their message is deepening connections with yourself, your friends and family and your community. Be the Gift Teams show others how they can impact their community in a positive way.

Would you like to organize a team event in your community? Is there someone you could nominate for an upcoming Be the Gift Team event?
