WSDOT worker hit by car on icy highway

SEATTLE  -- Two Washington State Transportation Department workers were injured as a result of the ice and snow storm that continues to grip the Puget Sound.

It happened on State Route 525 near Interstate 405 around 6:45 a.m.

Steve D. Cloud, 36, of Tacoma was assisting another driver who got in a crash on State Route 525 near Interstate 405 around 6:45 a.m. Another vehicle slammed into the wreck, pushing Cloud up against a cement barrier.

Cloud was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with broken bones. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The driver that caused the wreck was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

On Wednesday night a worker on Highway 18 was hit on his hard hat by a falling tree. DOT spokeswoman Jamie Holter says he suffered a scrape that required four stitches.
