Will we get more snow than usual this winter in Puget Sound?
That's unlikely. We're in a 'neutral' phase of the El Nino/La Nina cycle. That doesn't point to a cold, wet winter (typically La Nina) or a warm, dry winter (typically El Nino). However we can certainly get large single snow storms...and windstorms and rainstorms in 'neutral' years. We can also get lengthy 'blocking patterns'; that is, high pressure that dominates our weather for days on end, resulting in dry winter weather.
