Why is Death Valley the hottest place in the country-what's the 2nd hottest place?
Death Valley does hold the all-time record for extreme heat in the U.S.-134 degrees set July 10th of 1913. It also holds the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places for extreme heat...and is tied for 6th place with Lake Havasu in Arizona...with 128 degrees. Why is it so hot? Because it's desert and far to the south; the rock and sand in a desert absorb heat from the sun very efficiently, re-radiating it to the air...which is then registered by thermometers.
