What's the best way to tell how far away a thunderstorm is?
Use what's called the 'Flash to Bang' method. Begin counting (in seconds) at the flash of lightning, stop counting at the bang of thunder. Divide the time interval by five; that will give you your distance from the thunderstorm in miles. Do this more than once; if the interval is shrinking, the thunderstorm is approaching!
