What is the origin of Daylight Saving Time?

Interesting history behind this topic; Daylight Saving Time was first proposed in 1784 by none other than Benjamin Franklin to conserve candles! It didn't catch on for more than 100 years. Germany first adopted it during World War One; the allies-the U.S., Great Britain and France followed suit. DST lapsed after the war ended, but was retrieved by President Roosevelt in 1942; it was used year-round. After the war ended, it became a 'state option'. Today, only Hawaii and most of Arizona don't use DST. For reference, it runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.
