What is an ice 'tsunami'?

An ice 'tsunami' or 'ice heave' can rip lake cabins off their foundations. As lake ice continues to form over the course of a winter, it exerts strong pressure against the shore. When temperatures warm during the late winter or early spring, the ice expands and can surge up and over the shore.
