Since the Mariners have started spring training, what effect does the weather have on hitters?
A big effect, and it comes down to math and physics! We need to use a standard, so let's take a fly ball that travels 400 feet. For every 10 degrees of warming, it will go 4 feet farther. A one inch drop in barometric pressure will add 6 feet to that fly ball, and every 1 mph of tailwind adds 3 feet. So warmer than normal temperatures, lower than normal air pressure and a tailwind help add distance to hits.
