Is it true the ice in Antarctica is thinning, and if so, why?

Yes, the ice over parts of Antarctica is thinning. The reason, according to the scientists releasing the discovery, is that changes in climate are driving changes in the winds; those changes in turn are changing the ocean currents, bringing warmer water to Antarctica and under some of the ice. The greatest melting has been observed over the western part of the continent.
