Is it true that scientists believe the universe is older than they thought...how old?
Yes! Europe's Planck spacecraft measured microwave radiation from deep space. Because it comes from very distant reaches of the universe, it represents conditions at the beginning of the universe-right after the 'big bang'. That yielded an age of 13.8 billion years; about 100 million years older than had been previously estimated. It also found slightly more 'normal' matter (as opposed to 'normal' energy, 'dark' matter or 'dark' energy). Given our unusual weather...perhaps a bit more normalcy is a good thing!
