Is everyone having as lousy a summer as we are?
In a word-NO! A large and persistent ridge of high pressure has been amazingly stationary over the central and eastern part of the United States, in turn locking in place a very warm air mass. Some have referred to it as a 'heat dome'. Temperatures have remained in the 90's over the north central and north eastern states, and in the 100's over large parts of the south central and southeastern United States. That has held a persistent trough of low pressure over the west coast, allowing the jet stream to dip unseasonably far to the south...resulting in our persistent cool, cloudy and wet weather.
