Do heat related illnesses differ in the northwest than other regions?
Yes...we'll typically experience symptoms of heat illnesses at lower temperatures than people in other parts of the country. Because our average temperatures only reach the mid to upper 70's at the height of summer, we're not as acclimated to hot weather here. 100 degrees might not bother Phoenix or Houston residents...but here...the impact would be much, much greater. To learn more about how the weather can affect our health for better and for worse, watch 'Beyond the Forecast: Biometeorology', next Tuesday, May 29th, at 7:30 pm.
