Are there any statistics on the midwest/plains states' heatwave to show us how bad/how unusual it is?

Yes, July was the all time warmest month ever on record...and 2012 to date the hottest period since 1895. Any average period has one record high for every record low, but this summer, 25 states have had ratios have had ratios of 10 to one-that is ten record highs for every record low. Ohio topped the list with 49 record highs for every record low. No state has had more record lows than record highs this summer...that also is very unusual.
