More foggy days around Puget Sound ahead

Seattle was treated to some very picturesque fog Thursday morning.

Recent rain added moisture to lower levels, a clear sky last night allowed temperatures to drop to the dew point, and light wind all combined to form dense fog.

Expect more of this in the coming weeks and months. Here's why:

As we delve deeper into Fall and especially during the winter months, we in the Northern Hemisphere receive much less sunlight than the summer months. This is due to the lower angle of direct sun rays. Because of this, we get less energy from the sun, which makes it more difficult for low clouds and fog to clear.

That means foggy conditions may stick with us well into Friday afternoon and may even last all day.

It's just another reason why we see more gloomy conditions during the late fall and winter months.
