Thursday
If it hasn't been hot enough for you yet, it might get there the next few days.
High pressure will stay in control, giving us plenty of clear weather. We're also seeing a switch in the wind pattern, cutting off the moderating effect of the ocean. A thermal trough or heat low will develop and move up from the south along the coast. When that happens, it pulls winds toward the coast, and typically brings western Washington and Oregon their warmest weather. That will definitely be the case this week, as highs soar well into the 80s and 90s west of the Cascades. With that in mind, a heat advisory has been issued for the Willamette Valley through Saturday. Meanwhile, highs will also head toward the 90s east of the Cascades. Also, we may see some isolated thunderstorms in southern Oregon and southern Idaho.
Dry weather will last into the weekend, so be careful with fireworks on the 4th. A red flag warning is in effect for much of western Washington, so fire danger is high. By Sunday, we could start to see some thunderstorms in the mountains and showers could develop in the lowlands by Tuesday.
