First snow falls on Washington's ski peaks

Let the countdown to ski season begin!

October is typically the month that the first measurable snowfall of the winter season falls in the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest. Past couple of days proved Mother Nature is right on cue.

This comes after seeing the first snow of the season at several popular resorts, including Mission Ridge, with their beautifully coated mountain caps, and Alpental at the Summit at Snoqualmie Pass. Snoqualmie Pass showed off their first snow via Twitter after reportedly picking up over three inches of snow overnight.

Stevens Pass and Crystal Mountain displayed a variety of photos of snow on their Twitter account as well, with hopes of more to come!

Although the week ahead brings optimism to the mountains for additional snow, it’s looking less likely through Saturday, with pouring rain at times.  Snow levels will be high, above 7,000 feet, during the heaviest rainfall.
