Vandals shoot out 265 windows at Auburn schools

Vandals caused thousands of dollars in damage to Auburn schools in the last few days, shooting out as many as 265 windows.

Over the course of two nights, seven schools were vandalized, as well as the Auburn School District Pool and cars in the Auburn School District annex parking lot.

Auburn Police believe all the windows were shot out with pellet guns.

Auburn Riverside High School was hit the hardest, with 101 windows shot out sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

"We feel violated," said Auburn Riverside Principal Dave Halford. "I think as a staff, as a student body and as a community, we're all saddened by this event."

Between Sunday night and Monday, Auburn Police recorded:

   --13 windows shot out at Olympic Middle School
   --38 windows at Auburn High School
   --2 windows at West Auburn High School
   --21 windows at Pioneer Elementary School
   --2 windows at Auburn School District Pool
   --3 windows in Auburn School District vehicle

Between Monday night and Tuesday, police recorded:

   --101 windows shot out at Auburn Riverside High School
   --14 windows at Mount Baker Middle School
   --15 windows at Auburn High School
   --22 windows at Gildo Rey Elementary School
   --10 windows at Auburn School District Pool
   --2 Auburn School District vehicles

The total damage is estimated to be around $25,000.

Detectives do not know who is responsible. A $1,000 reward has been offered for tips that lead to an arrest. Tips can be called into Auburn Police at (253)-288-7403.
