On behalf of the Bowman family, below is the statement shared at the press conference today. Amina Kocer-Bowman remains in critical condition in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center and we don't anticipate her condition to change today. Thank you.
Teri and I truly appreciate the outpouring of support and encouragement over the last 24 hours from friends, family, and people around the world during this time of crisis. We ask that you keep Amina in your thoughts and prayers as she takes the first steps on her long road to recovery.
We would especially like to extend our eternal gratitude to Amina's teacher Mrs. Natile Poss, for her quick thinking and action; had she not administered first aid and stopped the bleeding from the gunshot wound, this event would have surely been tragic. Teachers like Natile are truly unsung heroes and her actions demonstrate the care and dedication those in the teaching profession have towards our children that we entrust in their care.
Next, on behalf of Amina and my family, we would like to thank the staff at Harrison Hospital and Harborview for the care that they are providing to my daughter. With their technical skill and compassion, we know that Amina is in great hands with these dedicated medical professionals.
I would also like to thank the Good Samaritan who provided me a ride from the downtown Bremerton Post Office; without you, I would have not had the opportunity to be with my family in our time of need. We'd also like to express our gratitude to the Bremerton School District, Fire and Police Department and Kitsap county Sheriff for their rapid response to this unfortunate incident.
Lastly, our friends and family have established The Amina Sierra Kocer-Bowman Victims Trust at Bank of America. This is the official fund we have set-up to assist with the cost and expenses associated with her care.
We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for you concern and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time. Will keep you updated as she progresses throughout her recovery
