And in other news: A area man fell victim to a sidewalk sketch artist who used the red ball under the cup trick and was taken for nearly $5. But thanks to police, some of his money has been recovered.

I think it is sick that you all are making fun of this woman. I work for a company that has a money wiring service and I have seen this scam. Yes we have all seen it in the news as well... but like Mary said, you get wrapped up in it. I would hope that none of my parents and grandparents would fall for this, but I still talk with all of them about it. The last customer that I had that was being scammed supposedly won a car, he was to send money for tax, license and then when they didn't produce the car he was told he had to send money for them to store the car one more week. Then the scammers switched the story to pretend they were the FBI, they had him believing that he was helping the FBI catch these guys... I was like really? You think the FBI would make you use your own money for this? I encouraged him to go the police and stopped sending money for him, but there are plenty of places that wire money:(

Haa haaa, here's the next phone call she'll be getting "ring ring, Hello Mary, this is detective so-and-so with the Marysville Police department and I'm happy to inform you we will be able to recover the remaining amount of the money you were cheated out of, but we need you to send us a check for $1500 in order to secure your funds.:" Haa haahaa, I have a sick mind.

I have to agree with my2boys109, haven't we heard enough about these scams???? If you have to pay to get it, IT'S A SCAM!!!!!!!!!! So as awful as it sounds, she deserves to have lost something. I think she's learned her lesson. I learned mine, from everyone else this has happened to, I pay attention to the news.

I agree, what a crappy write up.... From the healradnet.com site MARYSVILLE — A 73-year-old woman recently lost more than $36,000 in a sweepstakes scam. The Marysville Police Department recovered $11,000 of her money through an investigation and returned it to her Thursday. The woman was initially contacted by a man six weeks ago, Sgt. Deryck McLeod said. The man told her she was the winner of a Reader’s Digest sweepstakes and she needed to send in money before she could collect her $2 million prize. She sent in $1,700 but was told during another phone call with the man that it wasn’t enough. She sent several checks for $5,000 apiece. The woman, who lives in Marysville, does not want to be identified. She does want others to know about the scam so they do not become victims themselves. The scam was run by crooks in Jamaica.
