You know the saying: Desperate times require desperate measures. Wait until you see what one Seattle woman is doing in these tough economic times.

KING 5 reporter John Sharify and photojournalist Scott Jensen have spent the last four months chronicling one woman’s effort to get a job.

If you know of any jobs out there for Simmjaze Sayles, contact John Sharify at jsharify@king5.com

Also, I'd like to add that I am not receiving any subsidies. I was not even eligible for unemployment. I have sold pretty much everything I own except a kidney.

bigbadw, unless you're actually looking for a job you can't imagine how bad it is. Yes, there are jobs advertised, yes I apply for all of them. But I'm up against dozens if not hundreds of people also out of work. So far, I have not been the lucky lottery winner of an actual position. I keep trying, because I'm not ready just yet to end it all.

From the headline I thought this story was going somewhere else.

I'm having a bit of a problem with this story. There are jobs out there, although maybe not the ones we desire. I just pulled up Craigslist and saw many listings for Customer Service help wanted. Is there a chance that this lady is receiving some sort of subsidy as long as she "is actively searching for work"? I was raised by stories of the Great Depression. Her story appears to be a person of great integrity but something doesnt ring true. Anyone share my reaction to this?

underserf, moving is not alway an option for everyone. Besides, most employers are getting triple the amount of people applying for the one or two jobs that are open, even those retail jobs you mention, which makes it very difficult to still find a job as it is.

underserf, you need money to move. I don't have any. Beyond that, I've so far been rejected for every retail and low-wage job I've applied for. Perhaps you'd be so kind as to post your family's company's number if they are hiring.

I once had a problem finding a job - I moved, LONG before the two-year mark ND ,for example has, some 900 jobs to fill across the state not even including the oilfield. If ppl were as mobile as our society prides itself on being, the chronically unemployed would pack up & head out All the retail stores my family members work for are hiring & the migrants don't wait long before being picked up by contractors outside hardware stores So there ARE jobs, just that most of 'em suck ;)

Moved to tears. Ms. Sayles. NOT because I feel sorry for you (I have a feeling you would not approve...), but because of your SPIRIT, ATTITUDE, WARMTH, KINDNESS, SMILE, TALENT, and DETERMINATION>>>!!!! You have touched me, and I do not even live in your country. I wish you everything you wish for yourself and so much more. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world. You are touching many, and things WILL unfold!! You have wings and a song in your heart. And you are beautiful. Best always...

Simmjaze, I too have been out of work for two years. I know what you're going through and I am praying for both of us. I am proud of you. Hang in there. Also, King 5, seriously, you can't find a job for this woman?

This woman shows the true heart, human kindness, bravery, integrity, determination, independence, these are the virtues that makes a nation strong. I know she won't take money for herself, however, I wondering how a person living out of the area could assist her neighbors. I remember what is like to be homeless when my father lost his job. It was hard enough on the adults, but the children, we were always in fear of the State (CPS) would take us from our parents. I hope at least in this day & age at least these people can at least get food stamps, and basic needs. A full time job would be the best thing to give, but I am still looking for job.

Unfortunately I think employers are "picking and choosing" from the unemployment litter because they can now get someone for less money and a lot less body piercing!

After watching the video, I wish incredible lady all the luck in the world. It is folks like this who eventually do succeed. She is dedicated and committed to finding work. If I were not retired myself, I would hire her in a heartbeat. I will pray a Rosary for her to find work...the Blessed Mother of us all can work miracles.
