All eyes were on the White House Wednesday as President Obama announed his gun safety plan. With the mass shooting in Newton, Conn., a month ago and two people shot and killed at a community college in Kentucky just Tuesday, the conversation now includes the anxiety all of this can cause for parents and their children.

Dr. Gregory Jantz, founder of The Center For Counseling and Health Resources, shares how to discuss this difficult issue with children. He answers the following:

  • What advice do you have for parents when talking about the recent shootings and the gun-control debate?
  • What should parents look for in their kids when it comes to anxiety?
  • What are you hearing from parents since the rash of shootings?
  • Is mental illness a big part of the gun control debate, or are the lines getting blurred between gun crimes and mental illness?

Dr. Jantz also has a free online depression survey. To take the survey, visit aplaceofhope.com.
