SEATTLE -- In the eyes of Seattle police there was very little damage done by May Day demonstrators.

But in the eyes of Chris Tiedemann, the damage was far worse than expected.

The warm calm evening attracted Tiedemann out for a drive through Seattle in his BMW, with the top down. But upon returning to the city, he was met by a mob of angry protesters.

“I was shocked at how fast they surrounded me,” he said.

Near his home in Belltown, Tiedemann was stuck at a stop sign as protesters yelled at him, spit on his vehicle, dented the side panels and spray painted the trunk.

“There was a lot of fear. I didn’t know what was going to happen,” he said. “I just ignored them the best I could and tried not to engage.”

Luckily Tiedemann wasn’t injured, but his views on May Day have soured.

“Unfortunately you do a search for ‘May Day’ and one of the first things that comes up is Seattle violence,” he said, shaking his head. “I just got caught in the cross hairs of that.”
