Seattle resident Tara Lynn has landed the cover of French Elle - and is the first plus sized model to ever be featured as the cover model since the magazine's launch in 1945.  Tara's career has been skyrocketing over the past few months as she has been featured in several other national publications.  The inclusion of models of realistic size is a huge step forward for a fashion industry that is all too often overly concerned with the "thin is in" motto.  Tara's photo spread is critiqued here.

When she's not modelling, you might be able to find Tara at Meza, the Capitol Hill restaurant she co-owns with her boyfriend.

I own a plus size clothing store in Redmond called Trade Chic and we offer rare European fashions in sizes 16-30 that are made for young, trendy plus size woman that are sick of the slim pickings offered elsewhere in Seattle. All of the styles in our store are under $100. The store also takes used clothing and offers the customer cash or store credit for the items selected by us. Our address is 16508 Redmond Way in Redmond, WA 98052.

Tara is undoubtedly beautiful, and has a natural, smooth body - that is undisputable. But a strong encouragement and widespread acceptance of very large women (as "realistic sizes") is just as negative as the super thin skin-over-bone models. Isn't there a happy medium? Where are the strong women with lean muscle tone, supple, HEALTHY bodies? That is far more aesthetically appealing to me, and is exactly what we should be promoting as physical models to our nation's young women.

It is about time that the fashion industry realized that the REAL women who walk this planet ARE NOT skeletons covered with skin. Maybe if young girls are shown that THIN IS NOT IN then maybe they will stop killing themselves with diet pills and starvation. It is time that the world sees that plus size (real ) women are beautiful too. Thank You French Elle for stepping into the 21st century !!!

She is stunningly beautiful. As a plus size girl myself (who has actually lost 22lbs so far this year!) I am very excited to see the fashion industry coming out with cute clothes for women my size. Way to go, Tara!
