A Corner High School teacher in Warrior, Alabama is on paid leave after using a scenario of a possible assassination of President Barack Obama, as an example, in a math lesson.

The incident happened during a geometry lesson sometime this spring.

A Corner High School parent alerted the Jefferson County School Board about the math lesson. The board in turn alerted the Secret Service. Now that the federal investigation is over, the school board is going forward with disciplinary action.

At today's "called" Jefferson County Board meeting, the superintendent stood and addressed the audience about what had happened at Corner High School. Sometime this spring, a math teacher here, used potential shooting angles to assassinate President Barack Obama as an example in a geometry lesson.

Jefferson Co. Superintendent, Dr. Phil Hammonds said, "He shared how the comments came up and basically some students had come in making some comments and he played off of those comments to incorporate them in a mathematics lesson."

The Secret Service routinely investigates threats against President Obama and the Birmingham area office did the same. It found the math lesson at Corner to not be a credible threat and closed its investigation. No matter what the federal investigation decided the superintendent was appalled by this incident at one of the district's 13 high schools.

Dr. Hammonds said, "This was an instance of a complete lapse in good judgment, in common sense about what you say and you don't say regardless of this teacher's rational of how something can be incorporated in a math lesson."

Dr. Hammonds met with the Corner High School teacher and his AEA representative yesterday and said he was apologetic for his actions. Dr. Hammonds will use information from the incident, students
