Senate Bill 5195 passed through the senate and into to the house last Wednesday, March 13. The bill, which is very much up in the air, allows accredited, nonprofit institutions like Western Governor's University- Washington (WGU-W) to be eligible to participate in the State Need Grant program.
Currently students who attend online schools aren't eligible for the grants. Chancellor Jean Floten said on KING5 Morning News that about a third of WGU-Washington's students would qualify for the grants, if the legislature approves.
