A new KING 5 poll finds Republican Jaime Herrera leading Democrat Denny Heck in the 3rd Congressional District, though Heck has gained slightly in the past month.

From Olympia and Thurston County south to the Oregon border, Washington's third congressional district has one of the most watched races in the nation.  Long considered a "swing" district, the region has been represented by Democrat Brian Baird for the past 12 years.  With Baird not running for re-election, the open seat is being targeted by both parties as a high priority.

In the last KING 5 SurveyUSA poll, Herrera was leading with 54%, Heck with 41%.  Our new tracking poll finds Herrera is down slightly, by two points; Heck is up by two points.  It's now 52% to 43%, with Herrera still in the lead.

The poll of 552 likely voters has a margin of error of +/- 4.3%.  The numbers are expected to continue changing as campaigns are expected to spend significant money in the coming month.
