With Halloween just three weeks away, consumers need to think ahead to avoid online retail scams.

Approximately 70 percent of Americans will take part in Halloween, spending an average of $80 on costumes, treats, and decorations.

David Quinlan from the Better Business Bureau stopped by KING 5 with tips for consumers to avoid falling for common traps.

Consumers can avoid retail scams by:

  • planning ahead
  • making purchases with a credit card
  • using a secure website (a URL that starts with https:// )
  • going to the Better Business Bureau website with any questions
