SEATTLE - A protest was held the midst of the hustle and bustle of Seattle's Westlake Center on Saturday.

The group Iraq Veterans Against the War is against sending more troops to Afghanistan. The demonstration was meant to show what they say really happens during a military occupation.

"We're trying to let people understand what the people of iraq and afghanistan face every day," said Joshua Simpson.

On Tuesday, Pres. Obama is expected announce his new strategy and a decision on whether to send as many as 40,000 additional troops to Afghanistan.

Thanks to the IVAW members and VFP members who participated in this action today. Similar street theater has been done in other cities in the past. The people in the US need to have some clue about what their tax dollars are supporting. If you do not want our country to continue down the road of empire and domination it is your duty to speak out. Call the White House, call your Congressperson and your Senators. Tell them to end the occupations. If Congress would just put a stop to the funding for anything other than bringing our troops back home, the occupations would stop.

Just like seattle..... protest everything. What a waste of time

You have to remember that the majority of IVAW are not actual veterans of the conflict they just like the publicity they get playing as veterans and their board of directors advocates sabotaging equipment and weapons which will get soldiers killed.

to trplrdr: the people who are in IVAW locally are veterans of the conflict. You have no knowledge of these people personally I am sure. They know what it is like to be part of an invading army and realize that they have been used. What would YOU do if a foreign army came marching into YOUR town and began knocking down doors and searching your home? I doubt that you would stand passively by and say "thanks".

Fine, let's pull out of Afghanistan and let the forces of radical Islam take over the place completely and likely Pakistan too. Then they will use both of those nations to build up large terrorist armies which they will use to force the rest of the world to conform to their beliefs. Don't think that we are immune to more attacks here at home either. Envision what Israel was going though a few years ago with suicide bombers blowing up transit buses and cafe's daily. Despite the presence of our mighty Homeland Security there are still plenty of easy soft targets here that would allow them to kill thousands. Malls. Schools. Libraries. You get the idea. We could never provide enough security to protect everything without becoming a police state. This enemy will never give up until we conform to their beliefs and dark ages way of life. Make your choice Americans about how you want to live. Make your choice Americans about where you want the war. There. Or here.

Peggy so Josh Simspson is a role model right? Why he was recently in Venezuela sucking up to Hugo Chavez. By the way ol Josh claims to have been an interrogator, but his DD214 shows he was only an infantryman, not intelligence, So we can surmise he habitually lies.

The funny thing is.... so what if they are correct....Do they want us to be nice when we detain bad guys. Nothining like a little yelling, searing and maybe even a good boot to the head to get a Hajji to do what you need. Oh excuse me sir, please come with me...yeah that works and their culture does not accept that. I am so happy I was not down there, I would ahve laughed my arsh off. And Peggyforpeace....get a job and produce something. The sad thing is the more protesting there is, the less likely the troops will get what they need to finish the job, and the longer this war will go on, and therfore more troopst will get hurt or killed....all because of silly protesters. Lastly, not talking bad about support troops, they are very important, but combat troops who have seen the horrors or war want peace more then anyone in the world. Afterall it is they who's friends die, it is they who get to clean up after car bombs, etc for you back here protesting in Seattle..

Former Soldiers (no proof that they are) are restricted from wearing military uniforms to political events – AR 670-1. You are disgracing the uniform I wear each day. If you want to play “street mime” in some low budget street parody, fine… I have no problem if you want to waste your time and make a dork of yourself. Bottom line is more troops are going over and you can’t do anything about it. Oh by the way, it looks like your street troop forgot the finer points of handling locals – plays good in front of King 5 though.
