The town of Ashford is a gateway to Mount Rainier National Park and with the government shutdown closing the park, it effectively closed Ashford along with it.

Across town, cabins are empty and restaurants are closed. The ones that are still open are cutting staff hours.

If the shutdown continues much longer, many people in town are worried about paying their bills.

"In my opinion, they're not thinking of us who live paycheck to paycheck,” said Diane Tannehill. “Our economy and our personal paycheck depends on people coming up here and they're just not coming."
