Rockslide locations
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Two separate rockslides are blocking sections of State Route 11, also known as Chuckanut Drive.
One slide is just north of Spokane Street. The other is about 3 miles south of the Skagit-Whatcom county line.
The Bellingham Public Works Department has opened the Interurban Trail for local and emergency access only to the neighborhoods behind the slide area. It is a pedestrian trail and drivers are urged to use caution.
The Washington State Department of Transportation says approximately 200 homes are between the two slide locations.
A Washington State Department of Transportation spokesperson says the latest slide is the size of several dump truck loads of rocks, mud and debris.
Until engineers can do more tests, Chuckanut Drive between California and Spokane streets will be one lane.
The southern slide won't be cleared and secured until late next week.
