North Cascade Highway is closed for the season from milepost 134 Diablo Gate to milepost 171 Silver Star Gate. The effort to reopen the North Cascades Highway will begin the last day of March. But despite the heavy late season snowfall, those responsible for the annual reopening effort are optimistic that State Route 20 could be open by early May.

Chinook pass is closed for the season from Morse Creek near mp 74 to Crystal Mountain Blvd near mp 57. On Wednesday April 2, crews started moving equipment to the pass to start the process of clearing snow and debris from the roadway. The goal for opening the pass is as in past years for Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

Snow and slush on the roadway. WSDOT and contractor crews reduced US 12 to a single lane with alternating traffic near milepost 154, three miles east of White Pass Summit. A temporary traffic signal is guiding vehicles through a single-lane detour. Drivers will experience 10 to 15 minute delays during daylight hours.

Conditions:
Roadway has snow and slush. Avalanche control work is in progress, Sunday morning from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Stevens Pass. Eastbound traffic is stopped at milepost 58, near Scenic. Westbound traffic is stopped at milepost 64, near the Summit. Avalanche control work generally takes from 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete. WSDOT will provide an update should an extended closure becomes necessary.

Milepost 56 to 61, east of the summit, there will be traffic revisions to build detours for use this construction season. Drivers should prepare for up to 2 hours of added travel time until April 25. I-90 is reduced to a single lane eastbound and two lanes westbound until 9 p.m. Sunday, April 20, when the lane revision will return to single lanes in both directions 24 hours a day until next weekend.
