Police are warning drivers using the detours to get around the Interstate 5 bridge closure in Skagit County that drivers who run red lights or block intersections could get a $124 ticket.

The Washington State Patrol has put more troopers at the intersections of College Way and Riverside Dr. in Mount Vernon as well as George Hopper Rd and Burlington Boulevard in Burlington.

Police say they’ve been receiving complaints that drivers of regular cars and trucks as well as commercial vehicles are blocking intersections in a failed attempt to beat the lights before they turn red. They are doing this even with police sitting there watching.

Amtrak added a third daily run between Seattle and Bellingham Friday to help travelers bypass the closure.
