Drivers planning to hit the road this weekend should prepare for a number of closures and special events around Seattle that could affect their drive.

MAJOR WEEKEND CLOSURES

I-5 in Seattle: 

  • Friday, Sept. 13 to the morning of Monday, Sept. 16 - Up to two of four left lanes of northbound I-5 will be closed between Olive Way and Lakeview Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday through 4:30 a.m. Monday for highway repairs.   
  • Friday, Sept. 13 to the morning of Saturday, Sept. 14 - Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one open lane between the Mercer St. off-ramp and Lakeview Boulevard from 11:59 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. to set a barrier around the work zone.   
  • Saturday, Sept. 14 - WSDOT crews will extend the double left lane closures from Lakeview Boulevard to the north end of the Ship Canal Bridge from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for bridge deck repair work.   
  • Sunday, Sept. 15 -WSDOT crews will extend the double left lane closures from Lakeview Boulevard to the north end of the Ship Canal Bridge from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for bridge deck repair work.   
  • Sunday, Sept. 15 to the morning of Monday, Sept. 16 - Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one open lane between the Mercer St. off-ramp and Lakeview Boulevard from 11:59 p.m. until 4:30 a.m.

SR 520 Bridge: All lanes in both directions of SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and I-405 will close from 11 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Sunday for construction work.

SR 99 in Seattle: Northbound SR 99 will be reduced to one lane across the Aurora Bridge from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday for a routine bridge inspection.

I-5 Skagit River Bridge - Crews are replacing the damaged span of the I-5 Skagit River Bridge from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Expect delays through the detour route.

SR 9 Whatcom/Skagit Line: SR 9 between Royer Street and NP Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday to replace the existing culvert. Drivers can still access Acme and Van Zandt from the north during the closure. During the weekend highway closure, signs will direct drivers at various locations along SR 9 (from SR 542 at Nugent’s Corner to Sedro-Woolley) to use alternate routes.

SR 18 Issaquah: All westbound lanes of SR 18 from I-90 to Issaquah-Hobart Road Southeast will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for maintenance work. Drivers will be detoured via westbound I-90, southbound I-405, southbound SR 167 or southbound I-5.

I-90 Issaquah: The northbound lane of Lakemont Boulevard to westbound I-90 will be closed from until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 for roundabout construction work. Northbound Lakemont traffic to westbound I-90 will be detoured through the adjacent roundabout to the north and then back south to access the I-90 on-ramp. Westbound I-90 trucks and oversized loads headed for the off-ramp to Lakemont Blvd./ W. Lake Sammammish will be detoured to next exit west (#11) to follow a signed detour route.

SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge: Southbound SR 529 at the Snohomish River Bridge will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday for bridge mechanical work. A detour will be in place.

US 2 Snohomish: Both directions of Bickford Avenue are closed around-the-clock through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16. The closure is between US 2 and 83rd Avenue Southeast. The eastbound US 2 temporary right turn exit lane to Bickford is also closed. Drivers will follow a signed detour via SR 9. The new westbound overpass will open to drivers on Monday, Sept. 16.

Several events around Seattle this weekend are expected to clog or close certain neighborhood streets:

Friday, September 13:

  • St. Demetrios Greek Festival, noon to 9 p.m., St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (Montlake area).
  • Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake, 7 p.m., CenturyLink Field.
  • St. Benedict Wallingford Wurst Festival 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. (Wallingford area)  

Saturday, September 14:

  • Seattle Boats Afloat Show, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., South Lake Union.
  • St. Demetrios Greek Festival, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (Montlake area).
  • Seattle Storm vs. Tulsa Shock, 7 p.m., KeyArena.
  • St. Benedict Wallingford Wurst Festival 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (Wallingford area)
  • Fiesta Patrias Parade, 11 a.m., 12th Avenue S and S Henderson Street
  • Seattle Fiestas Patrias - Festal Cultural Festival, noon to 6 p.m., Seattle Center (expect heavier traffic on Broad St. and Fifth Avenue)

   
Sunday, September 15:

  • West Seattle Junction Car Show, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Seattle Fiestas Patrias - Festal Cultural Festival, noon to 6 p.m., Seattle Center
  • Seattle Boats Afloat Show, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., South Lake Union.
  • St. Demetrios Greek Festival, noon to 7 p.m., St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (Montlake area).
  • Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers, 5 p.m., CenturyLink Field.
