HYAK, Wash. -- Traffic on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass will be restricted to two lanes - one in each direction - all this week.

The Washington State Department of Transportation closed lanes beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday. They will remain closed through 7 a.m. on Friday October 19.

During that time WSDOT will prepare the highway for winter travel along a three-mile stretch on the east side of the summit near Hyak.

By next fall the interstate will be widened to six lanes along a stretch of the highway under a cliff.

The Daily Record reports it's part of the $551 million project that included blasting 84,000 dump truck loads of rock from the cliff over the past four years.
